Join the Orchestra

Interested in playing? We’re always glad to talk with new musicians.

Auditions

When: January 6, 2014 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
Where: Room 120 Price Music Center
Expectations:
 - Solo or orchestral excerpts of your choice – generally about 2-3 minutes of music. Solos could be pieces studied in private lessons, an all-state solo, or standard repertoire for your instrument. The piece or excerpt should show your playing at its best. No accompaniment is needed.
- Scales – Two scales of your choice, three octaves if possible.
- Sight-reading may be requested.

Auditions for string players are primarily to determine if players are capable of handling orchestra repertoire and as a factor in seating. Wind and brass positions are competitive.
All new community and student musicians must audition.
Returning community and student players are exempt.

Auditions are by appointments and made by registering on-line beginning December 17 at http://go.ncsu.edu/auditions. The link will also be posted on the NCSU Music Department website. Make sure to state what instrument you play.

Course Credit

Both orchestras are credit courses (1-hr) (MUS 121-122) and course registration is required for undergraduate students. Students may not register themselves. Students must audition first, and then the instructor will register those accepted.
